Ominira. This translates to “Freedom” from Yoruba dialect. This piece is constructed using African trade beads and 18k gold. African trade beads were used as a form of currency for bartering in Africa in the period between the 17th century and the early 20th century. Amongst ivory and gold, the beads were historically used to trade for slaves as well. This piece was created with intention to take power back from its former history. It is meant to be representation of freedom and luxury. Within itself, freedom is one the worlds greatest luxury.
